The Larousse Gastronomique, plus a pile of Christmas book gift ideas

For lovers of food knowledge, the Larousse Gastronomique is one of the indispensable works to have on the bookshelf (in multiple editions if you're really, really, curious… I have five ;) ). I slaved over a feature about the Larousse Gastronomique a few weeks ago and it has been published on my book review site, The Gastronomer's Bookshelf. It's an ongoing feature, in that we'll update it with interesting things we discover or which other readers tell us about.

On top of that, co-editor Mark has been trawling through our database of publisher releases, looking for interesting books as gift suggestions for Christmas (or any other event one might prefer). The first part of the Year-end Countdown was published this week, concentrating on baking, pastry and Christmas-oriented books. There'll be more features to come as the end of the year approaches, so that everyone with gifts to give, vouchers to spend or money to burn can work out what they should be looking for.

Word of mouth (or web) is such an important part of discovering things on the internet, so if you like our Year-end Countdown, please tell your friends and readers about The Gastronomer's Bookshelf.

Happy reading (and cooking, and eating)!

I have already printed off your indispensable list of recommendations after reading Manggy's note at his blog. I have an absolute weakness for books, and really would not be surprised if I don't buy multiple of your recommendations.

Thank you for all the work in putting this list together. It's fabulous.
