Writer, EaterIt's about time I did a new rundown of the reviews that have appeared at The Gastronomer's Bookshelf in the last two or three months!
First off, I did a long feature about a wide range of meat books, trying to find the perfect books to inform the ambitious home cook about everything meaty.
Don't forget my feature on the Larousse Gastronomique last year, too!
In the sweeter category of books, our reviewers have produced the goods on:
- Rose Levy Berenbaum's Rose's Heavenly Cakes.
- Warm Bread and Honey Cake by Gaitri Pagrach-Chandra.
- British chocolatier Paul A. Young's Adventures with Chocolate.
Books of broader interest were:
- Elisabeth M. Prueitt's Tartine.
- The Healthy College Cookbook — a classic now in a revised edition.
- New York chef with attitude, David Chang's Momofuku.
- The Dumpling by Wai Hon Chu and Connie Lovatt.
- An interesting, but North American Visual Food Lover's Guide.
- Three Star Chef by love-him-or-hate-him Gordon Ramsay.
And other more niche books:
- The UK National Trust's book on Apples.
- The Modern Café by Francisco Migoya.
- An Italian classic in a junior form: The Silver Spoon for Children.
- Paco Torreblanca 2 by innovative Spanish patissier Paco Torreblanca.

Some great books there, for sure. Will definitely have a read through the reviews, and a few no doubt will find their way to my bookshelves!
Question for you – have you come across any (preferably) Chinese cookbooks that have a great section around desserts, baking? I'm wanting to get a greater appreciation of Asian style desserts and baking. Thought I'd start with Chinese. I've heard Eileen Yin-Fei Lo is good. Any thoughts?
