Thanks for the churros solidarity Neil! I'll take the chocolate (minus UHT) and you can have the churros (plus icing sugar).

I think the jamon fat sensation is one of those things you probably learn to love... like the indigestion after three stupendous lemon tarts, say:)

I haven't searched thoroughly, but the only hits i found for Marcona almonds in Oz the last time I searched was for processed (fried/roasted) ones. Of course, I could rendezvous with you and hand over a few.

I'm over churros and chocolate, it's a bit much, a simple icing sugar dusting is just fine. Looks like a fab trip with a million different food experiences. Funny about the jamon experience being unusual and not completely pleasant. But then again, there are so many tastes to be discovered that one not quite working is irrelevant in the scheme of things. Would love to try the almonds, anyone here selling them?

Ahhh, Serenity, so nice to know you've experienced Coloniales too! Such a fantastic atmosphere and great food.

Greg... yep, back on sunburnt land, and slow in writing up my travel tales. I saw no flat sevilles in Spain, and have seen no fat sevilles here... odd innit!

Hola Duncan, are you back in Oz if you have been witnessing fracas (pl?) with AQIS staff?

in re the Seville orange...interested in others' views (Melbournians that is) on whether they've ever seen one of the round-ish rather course Sevilles - that Duncan was fussing about with in Seville - on sale in Oz....I only ever see the smooth flat sevilles, which I think are generally preferable anyway, but you don't see them in Europe.

*Sigh!* Duncan you just helped me relive my experience in Sevilla! Looks like you treaded pretty much the same terrain we did. We too looked like the quintessential tourists taking snapshots at all those orange trees, ...and before i forget how good was Los Coloniales??? I couldn't get over the tapas serving sizes - five of us shared ten tapas, desserts, had drinks and coffees each for the grand total of 11 euro (incl tip) each!!!! Blogger sense eluded me there though b/c i failed to take any photos gah!

Thanks so much for that!

The comments about language are for the benefit of others, really. I can usually get by -- it's simply surprising how little English (or anything else) is spoken. France and Portugal are lightyears better. Whilst my Spanish is awful, it was definitely not the problem with the bocadillo issue... that was just a rather rigid establishment!

In fairness to the Spaniards, I'll mention that I witnessed an excruciatingly incompetent interaction between a thoroughly monolingual Quarantine officer in Melbourne and some thoroughly other-lingual tourists.

What a shame. Sounds like you're having a little bit of problem with the language. I anticipate that as well, when I (eventually) go to Spain. Even in Tokyo, I had an especially hard time on one occasion, just asking for a glass of water!

Hi Y. No no it's worse than that... I was actually picking through the oranges by hand, cos I wanted to take one back to the hotel and see what it was like.

The millefeuille was texturally and visually okay, but rather unremarkable in flavour. Mildly sweet cream, mildly sweet nuts, mildly sweet glaze, neutral pastry.
